What 10 cents covers

About ten cents is the Foundation's stated average cost for one seedling within a batch planting run. Donations run through Zeffy. Zeffy says the organization receives the full donation amount; a separate optional contribution to Zeffy may appear at checkout.

What it does not cover: 10 cents is the average planting cost across a planting run, not a per-tree invoice, donor allocation, planting-date promise, or survival guarantee. You can inspect published plot evidence, not a tree with your name on it.

Where these numbers come from. The Ethiopia figures are the national planting day totals reported for 31 July 2025, and the ministerial commitments were counted in November 2025. We have not yet published a public source link for them, so treat them as reported figures rather than numbers you can check here. The plot 01 count and coordinates are the numbers we verify ourselves, on this page, with the raw footage attached.

How it started

Jimi's mother is an environmental activist, and he planted his first tree with her at the age of four. In 2019 the Australian bushfires burned for over six months and killed billions of animals, and watching it brought him to one of the lowest points of his life. He turned that grief into a fundraiser, then planted trees for 24 straight hours, three times over. It ended in an official world record.

Jimi's mother is an environmental activist. She campaigned against illegal deforestation by walking hundreds of kilometres and leading planting campaigns. Surrounded by that passion, Jimi planted his first tree at the age of four.

Then, in 2019, the forest fires engulfed Australia for over six months and burned billions of animals alive. Watching video after video led to one of the lowest points in his life. It compelled him to take action and launch a fundraiser.

As donations came in, he felt a surge of passion and aliveness, and the hopelessness dissipated away. That passion fuelled him to plant trees for 24 straight hours, three times, until he officially broke a world record.

On 31 July 2025, Jimi was in Ethiopia, where Treegens partnered with the Ethiopian Government to help them unite 29 million people and plant 714 million trees in a single day, in the first ever GROWlympic Games. We don't claim this alone; we were there to help make it happen.

In November 2025, Treegens secured commitments from 13 environmental leaders, mostly Ministers of Environment, to do exactly what Ethiopia did: a country-wide tree planting day.

Then he set his sights on a bigger one. On 3 August 2026, Treegens joined the attempt at the most trees planted by humanity in a single day: the world's first one-billion-tree day. The planting has not stopped since.

Questions donors ask

What planting evidence can I inspect?

The proof section publishes before-and-after footage, coordinates, and a counted total for a reference plot. It demonstrates plot-level work, not that a particular gift funded specific trees. Inspect the reference plot.

How much of my donation goes to planting?

Zeffy says the organization receives the full donation amount. A separate optional contribution to Zeffy may be offered at checkout.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

This site does not determine deductibility. Check the status and any receipt Zeffy provides and consult your tax adviser if needed.

Can I cancel or change my monthly gift?

Anytime. Monthly giving has no lock-in; you can pause, change, or cancel whenever you like.

Why mangroves, and why only $0.10?

Mangroves protect coastal communities from storms and rebuild the fisheries people depend on. They're planted by local teams at high volume along coastlines, which keeps the cost of each tree to about ten cents.
